Ark students take to the stage at RSC
Students from Ark’s Birmingham schools will take to the stage on Friday 6th March as they perform at the home of the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon.
‘The Head that Wears a Crown’ brings together excerpts from Shakespeare's greatest history plays - Henry IV Parts I & II and Henry V – and tells the thrilling story of wayward bad boy Prince Hal and his transformation into a courageous and noble king. Students from St Alban’s Academy, ARK Kings Academy and ARK Rose Academy will be taking part.
The performance is the culmination of the RSC’s three year Learning and Performance Network project which has involved more than 400,000 students and their teachers across the UK. Friday’s performance will involve over 900 students aged between 6 - 18 years and will take place across six regions of the country.
St. Alban’s Academy has been the lead school in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre’s Learning and Performance Network for the last three years which has included performing for HRH The Prince of Wales, the RSC’s President, on Monday 2 June 2014.
Ark’s Birmingham schools works closely with the Royal Shakespeare Company to widen access to - and participation in – Shakespeare’s works. Previous events have included the company performing King Lear in the academy for the staff, students and local community, live feeds of David Tennant’s Richard II and a series of teacher training opportunities in active approaches to Shakespearean texts.
