St Alban’s top for maths
2013 value added measures from the government show St. Alban’s to be the top performing school nationally in Mathematics, ranked 1 from 6356. That means students at this academy make better progress in this vital subject than students at any other school in England, a truly outstanding performance!’
The results show 82% of our students achieve a grade A*-C in maths, up from 53% when the school joined the ARK network. Nearly a third of students (29%) got the top A* or A grades in GCSE maths, above the national average. In English, 60% of students achieved grade A* - C (up from 53% in 2012, and from 34% in 2009).
We also saw overall improvements in their GCSE results with the proportion of pupils getting 5 GCSE grades A*-C including English and maths (56%) up by 5 percentage points compared with 2012 (51%), and up by 25 percentage points since it became an ARK academy in 2009 (31%).
David Gould, Principal of St Alban’s Academy, said: “We know how important it is for our students to do well in subjects like English and maths for their future life chances. I want to congratulate our students and staff for all their hard work. Our results have really accelerated since becoming an ARK school just over four years ago.”
Many students who did well in their GCSEs are now studying at our new sixth form which opened last September.
