Ark St Alban’s Academy is very proud to hold the Music Mark for 2019/2020 the value that we place on music, and in ensuring that pupils at your school are able to access and engage with a high-quality music education. At the heart of our music curriculum is the development of practical musicianship. Pupils are taught to play with accuracy and musicality, practice with discipline and intention, and listen with interest and understanding.

All music at KS3 (years 7 and 8) is practical, focussing on simultaneously developing instrumental technique and stylistic understanding through playing and composing together.

At KS4 (year 9, 10, and 11), we follow the AQA GCSE in music, which requires pupils to perform as a soloist and as part of a group, compose two pieces of music, and study a variety of musical genres and style both from the UK and the rest of the world, and apply this knowledge in an exam paper.
