Students at Ark St Alban’s Academy are celebrating today after strong A level results secured their university places and study scholarships.
This is the second year for A level results at Ark St Alban’s Academy after the sixth form opened in September 2013. Results have improved significantly on last year with 97% of students achieving three A levels or equivalent at A* - E. Those achieving three A levels has also jumped to 95%, up from 70% in 2015.
There were notable successes in English, History, Geography and RE A level, all of which achieved 100% grades A* - C pass rates – with 100% of Arabic A level students achieving grades A* - B. This set of results place St Alban’s second highest in the Ark network.

Top performing student Haleema (right) achieved A*AA and is going on to study History at the University of Edinburgh.
"I feel great, I'm still in shock! I really wasn't expecting my results to be this good – I've worked really hard! I'm really looking forward to moving to Edinburgh and now I'm going to go and celebrate with my family."
Friend Ash (left) was first through the doors at 7.15am and was delighted to have secured her place to study Diagnostic Radiography at Birmingham City University. “I’m very happy – I got into my university course which is all I wanted!”
Umar is celebrating after confirming his place to study Computer Science at Aston University. His results also secure his Marshall Wace Bursary which is awarded to talented Ark students headed for top universities, who might not otherwise be able to afford higher education.
“I’m really happy with my results and my place at Aston University. The bursary will allow me to be more independent rather than relying too much on my parents and family. Ark St Alban’s has really supported me – particularly since it became an academy. That’s the reason I stayed on after Year 11 – because of the support that you get from the teachers and how far they’re willing to go to help you and take time out of their schedules just for you.”
Art student Chantelle is fulfilling her dream to study Fine Art at university and will start her degree at Coventry in September. She will also receive the Marshall Wace Bursary.
“My ambition is to be an artist and to exhibit all around the world. My Fine Art degree at Coventry is the next step in that journey. I cannot praise this school enough. I’ve been here since Year 7 and it’s been a long journey. The school helps you in every type of way – if I need anything I feel like I can go to any teacher and ask. They’re amazing.”
James Tomlinson, Director of Sixth Form at Ark St Alban’s, said:
“We are delighted with this year’s A level results which signify a significant improvement on last year and that so many of our students are going on to university. Many of these young people are the first in their families to go to university and they should be incredibly proud of everything they have achieved. I am confident that they are all going to be very successful in their future studies and careers, and I want to thank the staff and parents for all of their hard work and support in helping our young people achieve their dreams.”
