Nuffield Research Programme success

Thursday 12 October 2017

Earlier this month 2 of our year 13s celebrated their success on the Nuffield Research Programme at an event at Coventry University.

Zhi Ling Yan and Ashna Omar were selected to take part in a 4 week research project during the summer break – a huge achievement as this is a most prestigious; competitive  programme.  They both worked with PhD researchers and professors at Aston University.

Ashna worked in the Psychology faculty and her research programme ‘exploring university students’ eating habits & developing a virtual supermarket research tool’ gave her the opportunity to practise skills learned in the classroom and develop a deeper understanding of research which will stand her in good stead when she studies psychology at university next year.

Zhi is a physicist and is hoping to study physics at university.  His project ‘constructing an erbium optic fibre amplifier’ involved applying all his physics knowledge and learning a whole lot more to help the team construct the amplifier which will now be manufactures for use in the fibre optics industry.
