May Half Term Letter

May 2016

Dear Parent,

We would like to thank you for the support you have given to your children and the academy since September and particularly during this busy exam season. I feel very privileged to work with you in this community.

Important Dates

Half term runs from Monday 30th May until Friday 3rd June inclusive. School is shut for students in Y7-10. There is extensive revision provision for Y11. Those students involved in these final sessions will be notified by Mr Holtom by letter and by text.

School is closed on Friday June 24th for teacher training. The academy is open as normal on Monday 27th June.

On Tuesday July 12th we will be holding a Year 11 ‘Taster Day for Sixth Form’, details to follow.

Revision and Exams

Year 11 students will continue to attend school every day until Friday 17th June. Compulsory timetable revision lessons will be available on certain days after that date, and the library will be open for students wishing to revise before or after any examinations.

More details will be provided in a separate letter to Y11 parents after half term.

Year 12 students are all due in to the academy at 8.25 on Monday June 6th. Those having exams will be able to revise in the academy.

Year 13 students will be on study leave from June 6th but will still need to attend specific revision sessions as detailed in their previous letter.

Uniform

I am very grateful for the support parents give us in ensuring our students always look smart. Visitors to the academy often comment very positively about the way our students present themselves, and this is good practice for the worlds of university and work. As ever, I would ask parents to check with our student services team before purchasing any costly item – particularly shoes – which they are worried might not be acceptable. We are happy to advise you in this way.

Holidays in term time

The academy is not legally able to grant leave of absence for holidays. This includes visits to family abroad. Such absence is unauthorised. Please be aware that should your child miss 20 consecutive days of school time in this way they will lose their place at the academy.

Finally, it remains for me to wish our Muslim families a peaceful Ramadan.

As always, if you have any queries, please contact me at the academy.

Yours faithfully

Mark Gregory
