Pupils in Year 12 were recently treated to an inspiring and informative session led by former pupil Talha, who returned to share his journey into the world of work through an apprenticeship.

Talha offered a candid comparison between apprenticeships and university, highlighting the benefits and challenges of each route. Drawing from his own experiences, he explained how apprenticeships demand dedication and hard work, but also provide valuable hands-on learning and career progression opportunities.

He also stressed the importance of engaging in extra-curricular activities and gaining work experience, noting that these efforts not only help pupils make informed career decisions but also give them a competitive edge in the job market.

Talha’s relatable perspective resonated strongly with the pupils, many of whom appreciated hearing from someone who had recently faced similar choices. His talk provided practical advice and encouragement, helping pupils feel more confident about exploring diverse post-18 pathways.

The session was a valuable opportunity for pupils to connect with a role model and gain real-world insight into life beyond school.

As part of Character and exploring the big question 'Where am I going next?' pupils are allowed to meaningfully engage with employers and apprenticeship providers so they can make well-informed decisions about their futures.
