When science comes alive!

Friday 02nd May was a remarkable day, as we were extremely fortunate to host the Royal Institution’s ‘Energy Live’ show for the day at the academy.

Our pupils in Year 7 and 8 thoroughly relished this vigorous show crammed with exhilarating demonstrations of butane rocket launches, ethanol fire bubbles, egg dropping, magnetic resonance waves, and the legendary Van Der Graaff generator, to mention a few. The show’s action-oriented, coherent synergy permitted multiple pupils to get involved in executing the experiments with our dynamic and captivating presenter, Usmaa.

There were so many climaxes to the show, however, a few were a race between two pupils using a handheld air pump to blow up and burst the other person’s balloon, which was attached to each of their safety helmets. Another momentous activity involved one of our pupils assisting in the ethanol bubbles experiment, where live bubbles converted into huge fire flames, which was a spectacular visual phenomenon.

Not only was this event an invigorating experience, but it was also how we use science to educate and inspire the next generation of scientists for the future. Exposing our pupils to the practical methodology of science enables them to understand the principles of science, as well as grasp an engineered outlook on the advancement of knowledge that is available.
