Intercity Technology
Some of our Year 10 pupils attended a workplace visit at the Birmingham City Centre Intercity Technology office on Wednesday 12th July 2023. They had the opportunity to go on a tour and we entered the cloud, which is the secure zone for client’s personal data. We got to see how the critical computerised systems complement each other to keep client data safe and secure. Pupils heard from a few people in the industry about their own individual career pathways. This visits primary focus was to expose pupils to the plethora of careers in technology and identify the necessary needed employability skills that pupils require for future success. The visit enhanced pupil knowledge about the world of work in the realm of technology which will support their next steps in life with their own career decision making.
What did a pupil think about it? “Today I visited the Intercity technology office on a work experience trip with my school, I enjoyed my visit because I got to see the inner workings of the place and saw the cloud and the technical stuff the office worked with behind the scenes which was very impressive. I was also impressed with the measures taken to ensure staff safety and the safety of the tech equipment. After visiting Intercity, I am exploring more routes of medical research which use technology in their research like nanotechnology. I also would like to work in an environment like intercity `because I think I would benefit from it, but I will be looking at inner city of work experience one more time in the future.”
