This was an opportunity for students to learn what roles exist in the Tech industry and how they can access this industry whilst not currently studying IT. Students took part in many different activities throughout the day, meeting employees from lots of different businesses in IT.
They received talks from QA Limited with regards to how to access IT apprenticeships. Met employees from Red Hat and had the opportunity to discuss how they got into their roles. They also had talks from YATF and SCC with regards to what the businesses do, tech roles in the local area and how best to take up these opportunities. This was before the students had lessons in HTML and javascript and an opportunity to use their new knowledge in the IT suites.
This was a great opportunity for the students and they were thoroughly spoiled with a lovely venue, inspiring people and lots of freebies!
'I went to the SCC to learn about what the roles of IT could potentially mean for a BTEC science student. At first, I thought there would not be any jobs available to me. However, through their workshop and speaking with the professionals on the day I found out that IT is a very viable option for anybody. I even found out that I could become a data analyst and what I can start doing alongside my studies to ensure this happens' (Year 12 Applied Science Student)
