Our approach

Geography helps pupils make sense of their world by linking together the natural processes that are going on around the world with their experiences as humans, along with the experiences of others. This gives pupils a base for comparison to consider differences between places and people. Lessons consistently have a focus on place because this underpins all other learning. No content is taught in isolation, it is always linked to somewhere specific. This grounds the lesson in a real example which contextualises the lesson, this, in turn, helps with the retention of learning and ensures sequences of lessons are relevant to one another. We teach geography through six key concepts: physical processes, impacts on our physical world, human processes, impacts on our human world, how we respond and making geography real. The concepts help model progression throughout the 7-year journey students take with us.
