Our approach
The MFL department aims to promote a lifelong understanding and appreciation of foreign languages and cultures, with the aim of enabling pupils to successfully and confidently communicate with people from different countries. Working backwards from success at GCSE, the curriculum covers the grammatical points from Year 7, which allow students to converse using different time frames and moods. The thread of grammar is taught through a variety of topics, and alongside a range of carefully selected vocabulary, to allow pupils to discuss personal topics (such as their family, talents and hobbies) and global topics (such as festivals abroad, climate change and caring for the environment). The curriculum sequences learning in a way which supports pupils’ cumulative building of skills and knowledge through each year and key stage.
