Year 9 pupils were fortunate to have an engaging and thought-provoking assembly led by Jess Holloway Dyker, Assistant Director of Marketing at South and City College Birmingham.
As part of the academy’s comprehensive careers education programme, Jess delivered a presentation that explored her professional journey into marketing leadership. She candidly discussed the pivotal moments and challenges she encountered, offering valuable insights into career development and resilience.
A key theme of the session was the intersection of professional ambition and personal life. Jess spoke openly about the realities of balancing family responsibilities with a demanding career— providing an authentic perspective on women in leadership roles.
The assembly also featured interactive elements, including a Q&A segment, which encouraged pupils to engage directly with the speaker. Her presentation was carefully aligned with the school’s objectives, drawing clear connections between academic subjects—such as English, mathematics, and science — and their practical applications in the workplace.
Ark St Alban’s Academy remains committed to enriching pupils’ understanding of the world of work. Through its careers programme, the school continues to expose pupils to diverse career pathways and equip them with knowledge about apprenticeships, volunteering opportunities, and skills for lifelong success.
