Welcome to the first update of 2024. Pupils made a great start to the term last week, including a really competitive Maths Morning on Friday.
Maths Morning
Friday saw our first ever Maths Morning. Pupils raced against the clock and each other to see how accurately and quickly they could recall their times tables. It was a wonderful thing to see the determination of all pupils as they engaged with the Maths Morning. The champion forms are those that got the highest average score as a team; the current Maths Morning champions are:
- Year 7: Blencathra
- Year 8: Tryfan
- Year 9: Nevis
- Year 10: Helvellyn & Nevis
- Year 11: Blencathra
The winning form in each group received prizes yesterday and they will have a chance to beat their time in the Science Showdown coming up on the 2nd February and another Maths morning on 15th March.
Pupils can get ready and practice for the Science Showdown and Maths Morning competitions by completing all their science nuggets on Century (due every Tuesday) and practicing their times tables on Sparx (maths homework due every Friday).
Fundraising
The fundraiser organised by sixth form pupils before the holidays raised £827 for Islamic Relief and their emergency appeal. You can read more about it here.
New Facilities
The initial building work which took place in the Autumn term is now complete. Larger playground spaces are now available, and the new prayer room and the new toilet block are now open and up and running. The amount of time pupils spend queueing at lunch time is now massively reduced.
There are more school improvement works to come, and you will see work beginning in February on the perimeter fence and on further alterations to the playground space.
Mock Exams
Year 11 and Year 13 will begin their mock exams on Monday 5th February. Pupils will receive their timetables later this week and parents in those year groups can expect to receive emails directly next week, sharing a copy of the timetables with them.
Clubs
Please check the schedule for after-school clubs and encourage your child to join a club; they are free of charge and there is no need to sign-up in advance.
