Ehsan Ibrahim, sixth form student at St Alban's Academy has been elected as Youth Police and Crime Commissioner.
Youth Commissioners advise the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) on law and order issues affecting children and teenagers.
Ehsan would like to thank all of those pupils who voted for him:
Dear all,
It is with the utmost delight I can announce that I have been elected by you, and other young people across Birmingham as your Youth Police and Crime Commissioner. I will get started in the following weeks when I meet fellow Youth Police and Crime Commissioners across the West Midlands.
Together, we will get to work directly with the Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster, police officers, and decision-makers about stuff that matters to us, like keeping our communities safe, how the justice system treats young people, helping victims, and stopping crime before it happens.
The project makes sure the police are doing a good job for us, allowing us to build relationships with them, and breaking down barriers between officers and young people. It's all about making things better together!
Finally, I would like to add that voting - which many of you took part in - is an amazing way for young people to experience democracy, where we get to choose our leaders and have a say in how things are run. It is not just a one-time thing – it's about staying involved and holding our leaders accountable.
By voting, we're also learning about the rule of law, a fundamental British value that says everyone is equal under the law. So, it is not just a vote; it's a way for us to keep being part of the decision-making process and making sure our voices are heard.
We are all the leaders of tomorrow.
Thank you,
Ehsan.
