Some of our female pupils in year 8 attended a workplace visit at Accenture offices for the ‘Tech She Can’ event day in Birmingham City Centre on Wednesday 26th June 2024. The main precedence of this event was to influence and raise awareness for young females to learn about technology and challenge any busting myths about the sector. The focus of this event was to inspire and empower the new generation of careers in the technology sphere. The visit focused on building the necessary employability skills that will equip pupils for future success. Pupils spent their time finding out about diverse role models, had the opportunity to network with a range of professionals and participated in practical activities. They used robots as an introduction to coding and later used AI to design some trainers, engaged in a careers speed networking carousel and listened to a professional panellist. Pupils attended interactive sessions with Accenture professional volunteers, including a tour of the premises and a company overview. Pupils were encouraged to network with other pupils in attendance and Accenture professionals. The girls absolutely adored this experience and engaged well. Two of the girls were also interviewed about their current understanding of technology and how they thought the overall day had gone, this will be shared later their podcast for future engagement and showcasing what Tech She Can does. Pupils heard from various professionals about the wide range of roles and routes into careers at Accenture including internships, apprenticeships and graduate programmes. They spoke to current apprentices and senior professionals at the organisation and learnt about their individual experiences which gave pupils further insight to what a future in this organisation could be like for themselves. This event has supported their next steps in life with their career decision making.
As part of Character and exploring the big question 'where am I going next?' pupils are given the opportunity to meaningfully engage with employers and apprenticeship providers so they can make well informed decisions about their futures.
