Our Year 9 pupils recently had the exciting opportunity to take part in the Girl Tech West Midlands programme an inspiring initiative designed to empower young women to explore careers in technology and the wider STEM sector.
Throughout the visit, pupils engaged in a range of interactive and thought-provoking activities that brought the world of science, technology, and innovation to life. One of the highlights was participating in a Tokamak Energy laser session, where pupils explored cutting-edge advancements in fusion energy and gained insight into how future technologies could transform the way we generate power.
Pupils also took part in an engaging session delivered by E.ON, which focused on renewable energy and sustainability. This session helped pupils to understand the importance of green careers and the growing role of technology in addressing global environmental challenges.
In addition, pupils benefited from a structured careers fair, where they had the opportunity to interact with employers and organisations across a variety of STEM fields. This allowed them to ask questions, explore different career pathways, and gain a deeper understanding of the skills required to succeed in these industries.
A particularly impactful element of the experience was the careers panel, where students heard from a range of inspirational women working in technology and engineering roles. Their personal stories and insights helped to challenge stereotypes and encouraged pupils to consider ambitious and non-traditional pathways. Many pupils left feeling motivated and empowered, with a clearer vision of the opportunities available to them.
Overall, the visit was a highly enriching experience that not only developed pupils’ knowledge of STEM careers but also boosted their confidence and aspirations.
